Summer Food Drives Every Tuesday

To ensure we can continue to meet the needs of the community, St. Vincent Place will be holding weekly drive-thru food drives throughout the months of July and August.

Every Tuesday starting July 11, from 10am to 6pm, just pull up to our main doors at 222 Albert St. E. and we’ll come to collect your donation. You won’t even need to get out of your car!

If you’ve been to the grocery store lately, you’ve seen the ever-increasing cost of groceries, so it likely comes as no surprise to you that the number of families visiting the St. Vincent Place food bank just keeps going up.

For example, this May set a record for the number of individuals accessing our food bank at 526. The record it broke had just been set two months prior in March at 512. From January to June this year, we’ve helped 2,941 people from 1,701 families – that’s an increase over last year’s numbers of 20% and 15% respectively.

Unfortunately, as often happens this time of year, the number of food donations coming in has dropped off significantly. As a result, our food bank shelves are getting extremely bare.

We’re happy to receive donations of any nonperishables, but for a list of what we need most often, click here.

Interested in volunteering for the drives?

This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to help out, including high school students in need of volunteer hours. Each week, we’ll need a total of 4 volunteers: 2 for 10am to 2pm and 2 for 2pm to 6pm.

If you’d like to help out, contact Sara at marketing@vincentplacessm.ca or 705-253-2770 ext. 202.
